Description

Mona Lisa - The Da Vinci Code - Signs of the Time / Time of the Signs. Mona Lisa on Labyrinth of Chartres

Mosaic-collage, packaging waste, esp. signs and symbols, watercolour on cardstock, diameter 64 cm, 2011

The Mona-Lisa-Labyrinth is basically inspired by the movie and tries to combine some of its essential elements, such as (hidden) symbolic meanings, we only have to decipher; the Mona Lisa as a „Symbol(s) of the Sacred Feminine“, the title of central character Robert Langdon‘s latest publication; his claustrophobia; the Labyrinth of Chartres as the main symbol for the journey of our lives (it is only mentioned in Dan Brown’s novel, as far as I remember, but I think it's crucial to the subject).

You can follow all the way through it back and forth, and there are, of course, things to discover: funny cypresses, signatures and other hidden meanings you may like to decipher or give it your own interpretation. Of course, this kind of work does not work very well online. It’s important to look at it from a distance at the beginning, to notice how the face and the labyrinth together are forming a symbol itself. Coming closer, it all begins to „fall to pieces“ and the complexity of it all gets visible.

Superb! And one of the best entries for the Mona Lisa Fixed competition I've seen.
